PEN INK & FILM

EVE Gallery presents two artists that are inspired by the streets and their surroundings. One works with pen ink, Papermate to be exact, and the other uses the lens as his tool to capture the essence of his subjects. Together they harmonize quite nicely!

JOHNNIE DOMING
UEZ
With the Papermate pen as his weapon of choice, Johnnie Dominguez bleeds forth upon the paper, the trials and tribulations both physical and spiritual of the people of California as well as himself. Summoning energy from the asphalt and the places of his youth all across the IE and SGV. Johnnie harnesses this power in his pen to wield the evil forces that compel the darker side of men. " I am inspired by Southern California, near death experiences, dreams of St. Death, my God and the lives of friends I hold dear; all this I wish to share with you.”

J-OPEN
J began his journey in photography in the early 90's while attending high school in Southern California. There he learned the basic skills of film photography, documenting friends and family. In the late 90's J moved to Portland OR. He attended PSU and there he would sit in photography courses. Even though he was not officially enrolled in class, he would gain access to the darkroom and was able to process and print all of his images. During this time period J began photographing and documenting people in the streets in addtion to figurative work.

By 2000 J moved back to California and opened ILO Art Gallery in Pomona Ca. Arts Colony. J would eventually have his first showing at his own art gallery. After showing at various local galleries, J gained notoriety and was invited to exhibit his work along side well known photographers, such as, Max Gerber and others. This exhibit took place at the Cuttress Gallery in 2003. J's influences include Edward Weston, Flor Garduno, and Estevan Oriol.

The Opening Reception will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.
The gallery doors will open at 3:00 pm.
The exhibit will continue through July 28th
